Bluegate Holdings was founded in 2008 by William Hartley and Elena Vasquez — two investment professionals who had spent their careers at large private equity firms and shared a common frustration: fund structures that forced good businesses to be sold before their potential was fully realized.

They structured Bluegate differently. Drawing on a combination of institutional LP capital, high-net-worth family capital, and co-investment from management teams, they built a firm that could hold businesses for as long as the investment thesis warranted — not as long as a fund cycle allowed.

Sixteen years later, that structure has proven its value. Several of our portfolio companies have been held for more than a decade. Our realized MOIC reflects the compounding that is only possible when you are genuinely patient.

We remain Charlotte-based by conviction. Charlotte's position as the second-largest financial center in the US, its access to exceptional management talent, and its proximity to the Southeast's fastest-growing markets makes it the ideal base for a firm with our investment mandate.
